NodeMCU with mosquito repellent- Part I

How many times you forgot to switch off mosquito repellent? common house mosquito is most likely to bite during the evening or the first few hours of the night. so other times it is just on and wasting most of the power. Hence I thought of enabling conventional repellent to Alexa connected device hence, you can manage on and off time without you wasting your time on the device. Make sense right !!!.

Before we convert to IoT device, Let's start with product teardown and understand the technology behind this. I got repellant from Godrej Goodknight Power. It has a unique feature called active mode and normal mode. that took me more attention to start teardown with. here is the teardown picture for your reference.

Electronics contain one heating element enclosed in a ceramic block and PCB circuit to make normal mode and active mode with the toggle button.

Interesting parts come on the backside of the ceramic heater. The main module heater has two individual heaters which increase the temperature when you toggle to active mode.

In normal mode, only one heater is an active and inactive mode both heaters are working. below is the schematic of the device to understand in detail.
From the above image, if you see all time one heater is connected to the main supply with a green LED connection. once you toggle the button to active mode another heater starts heating and led converts to orange color.

Now to make this device IOT enabled we need two relay connections, One is to turn on the device in normal mode and other to relay to enable active mode. I will cover these in the upcoming next topic.
